Viking Sun and its sister ship Viking Helvetia, built in 2006, are specially designed for sailing on the Rhine in comfort and elegance. Higher ceilings give all 198 guests a spacious feeling, and the entire ship is set up for optimal viewing of scenery.
There are 99 outside staterooms (37 French balony, 30 deluxe, and 32 standard). In addition to hotel-style beds, French balconies and large picture windows in the staterooms, guests can relax on the sun deck and enjoy its 360-degree vistas. The observation deck and restaurant have huge panoramic windows, and the ships soaring lobby atrium has a seating area with observation windows as well.
It received the Cond Nast Traveler Readers Poll Best Small Ship rating.
